This is a book that I read frequently. At the beginning of my architectural practice, I only thought it was a light and easy to read and approachable master's essay. Later, with the accumulation of architectural practice experience, I will feel the deep meaning of Zumtor's words and understand the ideas accurately conveyed when I go back and read it again. Architecture is not only beautiful form and easy to use functions, these are only appearances, good architecture should involve real existence, full of poetic. Zumthor is certainly an architectural poet.

Rossi is the leader of the Rationalist architecture movement in Italy and one of the most influential theorists today. This book is one of his important works on architecture and urban theory. Rossi's book is a reappraisal of the modern architectural movement, as well as an analysis of the rules and forms of urban construction. Rather than commenting on bland architectural forms or rejecting standard images of modern architecture, Rossi highlights the neglect and destruction of the city as a repository of "human collective memory", as his title suggests.
