    Description

The seventy-four writers selected for the works in this book, and their 121 essays, provide a profile of the relationship, past, and history of Peking during the 30 years from 1919 to 1949. In that turbulent historical period, these words were peaceful, elegant, and calm, as if entering another time and space parallel to traditional historical discourse.

    Reason for Recommendation

The first recommendation of this book is really because of feelings. I was about to leave Nanjing after graduating from university, and my classmate gave me this set of "Beijing Hu" which He found in the old bookstore in the vertical layout of the Sanlian Bookstore. I haven't stayed in Beijing for a long time, but this book has allowed me to build up a sense of intimacy with distant strange cities and a desire to explore new life. Write a recommendation today, pick it up again, and feel more satisfied.

The life in Peking, from the first perspective, described in this book is the life in the streets, in the sea, in the garden. Now that we are shaping the space of the city, it is precisely to jump out of the grand perspective and participate in the emotions of the space.

    Description

One of the important theoretical works of Lewis Mumford, a well-known urban theorist and social philosopher in the United States, he systematically explained the origin and development of Western cities from the perspectives of society, religion, culture, and technology, and looked forward to the future.

    Reason for Recommendation

The author wrote this book in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The entire world is being shrouded in the shadow of the Cold War, waiting to be revived. If the last book is a slice of a wave of times, this book tries to help us establish the entire structure of the evolution of the city. I understand that the whole framework of the author is the humanistic spirit of the city. The extravagant nobles in the Roman era; the chaos and vitality of the Middle Ages; the show-off of power in the Baroque era; the environmental and spiritual pollution in the Coketown era, as well as contemporary problems.

Every era is a great time. Therefore, although it is a great book, it takes a considerable amount of time to read, but every relevant content is always amazed me by the contemporary content of the book.

Reading this book, although it is about the history, but it helped me to have some more thinking about the future of the city and society. In this age of anxiety, at least I have provided myself with some angles for judging affairs.

    Description

Li Yunxun has studied the design traditions of Chinese architecture for many years and made field trips to Eastern and Western architecture, which verified the existence of architectural and planning theories with Chinese ethnic and geographic environment characteristics in ancient China. Many of these design ideas and techniques are unique or pioneered in China, and are in a leading position in the world. Furthermore, it fully affirmed that the Chinese classical architectural design concept is the crystallization of China's long history and culture, and it is also a treasure of the world's architectural culture and art.

    Reason for Recommendation

When I was studying, I did not have a very intuitive experience of the beauty of ancient Chinese architecture. The content of the textbooks was more focused on knowledge concept, and the teaching of the history of China Construction also basically fits the way of dating history. The result of this is that most of the systemic problems are fragmented, and there are fragments of knowledge in the mind. Without continuous cognition, let alone love.

I think the most interesting thing about this book is that the author, as an architect who has received architectural education in China and has practical experience around the world, is providing his own cognitive methodology. Based on his work background, his narration certainly includes a comparison between China and the West. These comparisons are not only on the technical level, but also on the social and public traditions.

When the architecture is placed in the entire society, the entire history of Chinese architecture becomes particularly interesting, giving it fun and wisdom in life. Make people proud of being a member of this long-standing culture.

    Description

Renzo Piano, Jean Nouvel, Ricardo Recorita, Frank Gehry, I.M. Pei, Dominique Perrault are known to everyone in today’s field of architecture. Everyone is familiar with their architectural works, but few people know how they grew up as an architect. In 1998, the famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando, who was a professor at the University of Tokyo at the time, invited these six popular architects in the world today to the University of Tokyo for face-to-face exchanges with teachers and students, and talked about their academic career and work experience when they were younger. Theis book is the record of the interview at that time.

    Reason for Recommendation

In the two days I wrote the recommendation, the college entrance examination is coming soon, and many people will usher in their 20s. When I was 20 years old, I was nothing special. Confusion was an eternal topic when I was young. So, like my classmates around me, I read this book, hoping to show myself some paths to the success of architects.

It's totally another state of mind to reread now. The masters inside are familiar to everyone, and they have been popular for decades. However, after working in the industry over the years, I have gradually realized that facing those anxious 20-year-old eyes, what the masters actually want to say is that it is of course good to be a master architect, and it is also okay to be an ordinary architect. The practitioners are also good, and it doesn’t matter if you just lie flat if you don’t really want to do anything. The most important thing is that we let ourselves feel the joy of what we do. It doesn't matter what we do.

    Description

This book is a novella written by Italian writer Italo Calvino. The 55 city stories in the novel show the secrets of the city. The true charm of the city is that it is soft, it absorbs many and its all-encompassing, and is always the embodiment of hope and the source of accumulated guilt. The historical background of the novel brings out two cities that actually existed: the capital of the Kublai empire and the Venice, hometown of Marco Polo. The confrontation between the two cities shows the different values of the city as a geographical space, a social space, and a cultural space.

    Reason for Recommendation

Space is invisible, and the city is also invisible. It is the eye itself. Architects are good at creating materialized fragments. This book takes me to countless beautiful illusions. He is an endless extension of cities and spaces.

You will also face many problems in your personal life and the public sphere directly on the building of thoughts, and you will get prudent and sincere answers.

    Reason for Recommendation

Reading recently. In the vast and obscure series of thoughts, this book is like an informant, helping you find the thread and cut into the vast universe. For architects, apart from the knowledge system, the combing of the value system is more like a beacon of life, leading the way you come.

    Description

This book is a masterpiece of Chinese philosophy that is well-known at home and abroad and has global influence. It is also a super bestseller in Chinese academics. It is compiled based on the speeches of a generation of philosopher Feng Youlan in the United States, and it is widely circulated in various countries around the world. This version was translated by one of Feng's students, Tu Youguang, under the guidance of Feng Youlan, after the English version had circulated for 40 years. This is the only translation approved by Feng Youlan himself, and it is also the most authoritative version.

    Reason for Recommendation

Those who are interested in Chinese culture not to mention being one of them. It is a book that you cannot miss. There is a shortcut and a map for you to enter Chinese culture.

This book is Feng Youlan's reading notes. It outlines and expresses his understanding of Chinese culture and philosophers. Reading this book, there is often a sense of sudden enlightenment. When Chinese are young, they often ask their mothers where they come from. Read this book and also ask myself why I think this way. Comparing the reading with the previous lectures on modern Western thoughts, the similarities and differences in the methods and purposes of understanding are even more treasured.

    Description

Kappa Senô is a representative contemporary stage designer in Japan. This book is his travel notes, life records, and life babbles.

    Reason for Recommendation

Everything starts from the details. Kappa is a fetish. It reminds me of Carlos Capa among the architects. Kappa painted all kinds of living objects, even if they were relics, they were full of life. Kappa Senô is obsessed with details, and he is most proud of the Leone family cemetery. The big proposition of life and death seems to be resolved in fetishism. This is also the reason why the profession of architects and designers can lead us to indulge in it. Life is really worth loving!
