Zeng Chunlan graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 2005 and received a master's degree in landscape architecture and a master's degree in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010. After that, he worked at !Melk Landscape and Urban Design Firm in New York, USA until now. In 2019, he returned to China and founded UrbanX Landscape Company. Zeng Chunlan focuses on interdisciplinary innovative design practice. Having an educational background in architectural landscape and excellent aesthetic acumen makes her works very appealing and narrative, as well as functional and social. She hopes to explore new things and new materials, and emphasize the grasp of details, integrate artistic techniques into the macro-city, landscape, and architectural space to create unique urban space possibilities and ways of participating in activities.

Learning from Las Vegas and Venturi's Complexity and contradiction in Architecture are considered to be the manifesto of modernist architectural thought. Venturi opposes Mies van der Rohe's famous saying "Less is more" and believes that "Less is bald". He believes that the masses do not understand the modernist architectural language, and the buildings that the masses like are often ordinary, lively, decorative, and metaphorical. He believes that the face of Las Vegas, including narrow streets, neon lights, advertising boards, fast-food restaurants and other trademark-like styles, just reflect the preferences of the masses. So in Learning from Las Vegas, he calles on architects to have dialogue with the masses, accept the interests and values of the masses, and learn from Las Vegas.

A must-read classic! Venturi made an in-depth case analysis for his postmodern manifesto, a humanistic and architectural study for the extreme case of Las Vegas. The topics discussed in the book also have many connections at present. The original English version is recommended. It is not too obscure, and is easy to read and understand. The Chinese translation version is not recommended.

He is very academic, but also has very personal views and expositions, full of quotations from historical materials, sharp viewpoints and logical expositions. In The Great Pretender, kinetic artist Theo Jansen shows that the concept of "I" is merely a tool in our evolution. We need this tool to be selfish. There can be no selfishness without the I-fantasy. Skeletons made from these tubes are able to walk, deriving their nutrition from the wind. They evolved over many generations, becoming increasingly adept at surviving storms and water from the sea. Theo Jansen’s ultimate wish is to release herds of these animals on the shore. In reenacting Genesis, so to speak, he hopes to become wiser in his dealings with the existing nature by encountering problems the "creator" had to face. The Great Pretender is a account of Jansen’s experiences as God.

In Delirious New York, Koolhaas believes that "Manhattan architecture is a pioneering paradigm of congestion, Manhattan has produced its own metropolitan urbanism-congestion culture", and proposed Three theorems of congested culture: Grid, lobotomy, and schism. The grid represents the urban planning of Manhattan, showing a dialectical relationship between non freedom and freedom; anterior lobe incision represents the rupture of the relationship between the inside and outside of the skyscraper; the split represents the split between the upper and lower floors due to the stacked tofu-like spatial composition of the skyscraper Status. Koolhaas believes that the congested culture "resolves the long-standing conflict between form (outside) and function (inside), so that Manhattan's buildings are both architectural and high-performance machinery; modern and timeless."

There is a thousand New York for a thousand people. How New York became New York, Koolhaas made up a manifesto for this New York. He gave observations, and more observations, without conclusion. Desire and capital, race and culture, have become this big hairball that is constantly being organized and chaotic. It is too complicated and too contradictory. Every aspect of it is the front and back of countless coins. It may be precisely because of these contradictions and conflicts that this unparalleled center of the universe has been hit. For those who are intimidated by Koolhaas's English, I recommend Tang Keyang's Chinese translation.
