Architecture Without Architects
Bernard Rudofsky
简介
Description
The beauty of primitive architecture has often been dismissed as accidental, but today we recognize in it an art form that has resulted from human intelligence applied to uniquely human modes of life. Indeed, Rudofsky sees the philosophy and practical knowledge of the untutored builders as untapped sources of inspiration for an industrial man trapped in his chaotic cities. Features 156 halftones.

Exit Utopia: Architectural Provocations 1956-76
Schaik, Martin Van (EDT)/ Macel, Otakar (EDT)
简介
Description
International in scope and exhaustive in detail, the book explores important exponents of "visionary" and "utopian" architecture in the closing juncture of the modernist era, coinciding with the cultural upheavals and social transformations of the 1960s and '70s. By revisiting "New Babylon," the magnum opus of the Dutch painter Constant Nieuwenhuys, whose vision of a situationist urban environment made him one of the most influential artists of this time, this collection of essays re-examines decisive work by Yona Friedman, the Archigram group, the Italian Radicals Superstudio and Archizoom, Koolhaas/Zenghelis and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, and Léon Krier. Timely, in-depth essays and exhaustive project documentations trace the decline of avant-garde projects in architecture. The result is a significant work of architectural theory and history, which will interest anyone studying ideologies of the past and dreaming of the cities of tomorrow.

(Origin and Gravity)
华黎
简介
Description
This book aims to introduce the architectural practice of Chinese young architects, discuss the contemporary architectural problems in China, and analyze the representative works of the most dynamic architects in China from an academic perspective.
Hua Li believes that architecture is a kind of construction, while writing is a kind of subversion. There can be a moment of just right silence in the building, and the words are unstoppable. Therefore, it is not easy to use words to systematically explain the work of the architect, because the practice of the architect itself is composed of a lot of accidental fragments. We should be sober about words, which is an idealized abstraction and a simplification of reality.
Reason for Recommendation
The starting point and gravity imply that architecture is the intersection of subject and object, the collision between the ideal world and the real world, and the architectural works are the real reflection of the architect's personal state. This book is a plain record of what Hua Li thought in architectural design and the story that happened during the construction, rather than too much theory of form.
