    Description

The beauty of art fictionalized by the author, and the liberal ideas he spread through criticism of the real world, have occupied a place in the treasure house of culture and thought in this world. Today, these words and thoughts are still what our society needs.

We can only draw the conclusion from Wang Xiaobo's prosperity: In China, the spread of liberalism still has a long way to go. Wang Xiaobo’s works have always been popular. Wang Xiaobo’s novels have created his own beauty in the forest of world literature. This beauty is like a beam of light, piercing the barrier of time, and enlightening the mind of the generations of people who have just begun to read.

    Reason for Recommendation

Now this era is not suitable for Lu Xun, but it is super suitable for reviewing Wang Xiaobo's articles. Architects are not only technical craftsmen, but also intellectuals who can think independently in the tsunami of fragmented information.

    Description

Nanami Shiono, a Japanese writer who studies Roman history. Although the whole book is developed in a relaxed form of dialogue, if the reader is willing to spend a little thought to refine the author's ideas and structure, she will definitely feel her sincerity.

The book is divided into four parts: the first, second, and fourth parts are about the Renaissance in Florence, Rome, and Venice respectively. They are narrated according to the process of the transfer of the Italian Renaissance center. The rise of Florence and the transfer after the death of Lorenzo Medici Rome, after the start of the Anti-Reformation movement, it moved to Venice. The third part talks about the relationship between Italy and great navigation. The arguments in this part are interesting and innovative.

    Reason for Recommendation

The Renaissance runs through 400 years of history. The explosion of art during this period was only a branch of social change. The Renaissance was the starting point of modern civilization. Shiono Qiyo digs out the starting point of revival in history because he doubts the world and rules created by the Middle Ages. What is interesting is that It seems that now we are also on the road to revival.

What are You Looking at:150 Years of Modern Art in the Blink of an Eye ,  Will Gompertz

    Description

Will Gompez-a senior media person who loves stand-up comedy and works in art galleries and BBC, he is well versed in readers' reading psychology. He knows how to use rich and full content, humorous language, clear narrative logic and artist gossip to firmly grasp the reader's curiosity and thirst for knowledge and enhance the readability of the book itself.

The story of this book is stronger than academic rationality. The description method of linear history helps readers to connect many knowledge points. It can be regarded as gentle, solid, and new. It is a good choice for getting started or sorting out the context.

    Reason for Recommendation

Architecture and art are inextricably linked, because of function, technology and other reasons, they always lag far behind art. Excluding the active groups in the 1960s and 1970s in the history of architecture, most of them are left with seriousness and dignity, which is always not as enjoyable as the gossip of modern art history.

    Out of Control, Kevin Kelly

    Description

This is a "big tome" book about the evolution of human society (or more complex systems in a more general sense). For readers who are not afraid of "mind gymnastics", it is bound to be helpful. When the media focused on a specific application, on roadshows and IPOs, and on the market value of technology companies, Kevin Kelly, as always, set his sights on a vast future-as early as the early 1990s. With the advent of the Web2.0 era, the development trend of the decentralized Internet is foreseen.

    Reason for Recommendation

"Out of Control" was written in the early 1990s, when cyberpunk prevailed. At that time, the cutting-edge thoughts and scientific and technological explorations at that time are not outdated in reading today, and it feels like a future apocalypse.

Ways of Seeing , John Berger

    Description

In terms of its stimulation and influence on art, John Schger's "The Way of Seeing" is rare. This booklet on the relationship between art and society was first published in 1972, based on the British BBC TV series of the same name. The book includes 7 articles, 4 of which use both graphics and text; the remaining 3 are purely images. Each article discusses a topic, such as: art and politics, women as objects of viewing, the contradictions of oil painting itself, and advertising and capitalist daydreams. For more than 30 years, the controversy aroused by this book has lasted for a long time, and its views have become common sense in this field.

    Reason for Recommendation

"The Way of Watching" is a popular art science program by art critic John Berger, which is very similar to "Part" by Chen Danqing, but it took place in the 1970s. I like how Berger analyzes the story behind the artwork like a detective. It helps me to organize my design ideas.

    Description

In this book, Liang Sicheng loves traditional Chinese culture, and believes that traditional Chinese architectural forms can be transformed into the structural system of Western buildings using similar language translation methods to form new buildings with Chinese characteristics. He and his wife Lin Huiyin surveyed ancient Chinese architecture on the spot, and conducted in-depth research on the Song "Building French Style" and the Qing "Engineering Practices of the Ministry of Industry", which laid the foundation for Chinese architectural history. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Liang Sicheng advocated the use of the past for the present and the use of the foreign for the Chinese in architectural creation theory, emphasizing that new buildings should inherit traditional forms.

In the 1950s, Liang Sicheng was criticized many times for advocating traditional forms such as large roofs for new buildings and protecting the ancient city of Beijing. These theoretical views of Liang Sicheng actually represent the thoughts of most architects at that time and the hopes of the government, and they still have a great influence on the Chinese architecture community to this day. Liang Sicheng's main works include the auditorium and teaching building of Jilin University, the facade of Renli Company, the female dormitory of Peking University, the Monument to the People's Heroes, and the Monk Jianzhen Memorial Hall. He has participated in the design of the Tiananmen People’s Heroes Monument and the design of the National Emblem of the People’s Republic of China.

    Reason for Recommendation

This is a collection of texts by Mr. Liang Sicheng, including academic articles and private texts. It is a summary of the history of Chinese architecture and a vivid personal history.

Louis Kahn Essential Texts , Robert Twombly

    Description

This unique anthology draws on the lectures, essays and interviews of Louis Kahn (some of which have never been published before) to capture the work of the influential American architect from the early 1940s to 1974 The evolution of thoughts and core creeds that passed away. Professor Twombly’s introduction and topics provide insightful comments on the text.

    Reason for Recommendation

    Kahn

Kahn's writing is full of literature, just like his architectues.

The Secret Lives of Buildings , Edward Hollis

    Description

The book combines chronicles, fables and myths, describes the love, loss and time of architecture, and challenges architectural writing. The artifacts of the Parthenon were scattered into ruins, Hagia Sophia became a museum, Gloucester Cathedral became the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the movie "Harry Potter", and the Alhambra became extremely popular scenic spots, and the Berlin Wall is a quarry for collecting souvenirs... From stones to monuments, from relics to ruins, architecture is changeable. It will be occupied and changed by people. At the same time, it connects history and life, linking up a mysterious and curious past.

The author of this book, Hollis, is transformed into a storyteller of historical sites, leading us through time and space to explore the life stories of thirteen historical buildings, especially the unknown details of the evolution: The use, destruction, theft, and transformation process from the initial scene of birth to dozens or hundreds of years. Hollis believes that the alternation of architectural works is a wonderful and absurd evolutionary story, far more interesting than the life gossip of the architect, and whether you have visited these buildings or not, you will be touched and rewarded. Critics believe that in the hands of Hollis, the building seems to speak, grow and change in shape. We traveled through this experience with this book, and we were shocked: the building, the living, the bad and the empty, are often just the epitome of human culture, and all desires are transformed and hidden.

    Reason for Recommendation

Some buildings and cities have been established on the earth for thousands of years. These monuments are the most direct witnesses of the vicissitudes of human society. After this book, I was more concerned about what happened here when I traveled and encountered interesting buildings.
