    There's an exhibition called

“Art is a game between all people of all periods.”

                                                 ——Marcel Duchamp

At the beginning of the 20th century, Marcel Duchamp moved art from easel painting to everyday life. At the end of the 20th century, the curator Obrist created an exhibition that will never stop "Do It" in an afternoon tea with artists Christian Boltanski and Bertrand Lavier in a Cafe in Paris.

Continuing to change in the midst of change is Aubrest's new understanding of the dialogue between people, which opens up the infinite boundary of group creativity. Exhibition is no longer just one independent art exhibition after another, and the creation of works of art and holding of exhibitions are no longer just the "privilege" of curators and artists, but a constant collision and renewal of ideas and concepts in the long course of time. Ask everyone to "play art," "do exhibitions," invite friends of artists from around the world, and ask them to come up with some "instructions," and Aubrest turns the exhibition into a playground.

Art exhibitions have been updated over the last hundred years, breaking out of the conventional way of thinking and traditional categories of art, it combines music, painting, poetry, film and works of art, allowing the audience to re-examine and review art and lifestyle from a fresh and interesting perspective. In her work grapefruit, Japanese avant-garde artist Yoko Ono has a good interpretation. She called her fragmented delirium in her works as Instruction, taking the epitome of that era to establish a special connection with the audience, and invited the audience to become an active part of her artistic creation, recording the formation and infinite extension of Yoko's artistic concept with diversity and crossover.

(Alison knowles

Mixing behavior in art, video, sound, papermaking and printing of Alison Knowles (Alison Knowles) are good at is engaged in the artistic creation with a variety of forms, similar to the early dadaism, represented by Alison mountain, Fluxus artists emphasize the theory of art, lambasting the seriousness of the modern art, emphasize the routine contact with artistic senses, with abstract, contingency and unexpected stochastic effect, added infinite possibility of interaction with the audience.

Contemporary art and exhibition have already been a fluid attitude, not an art movement, nor an art style.

01关于Do It / About Do It

"do It" began in 1993 as an open exhibition model, an ongoing exhibition, it draws from Conceptual and Minimalist art of the 1960s and 1970s as well as Fluxus practices. The instruction can open a completely blank space and interpret and change the artwork in a complete freeway. All people, whether they are artists or curators or not, can create creations through "play instructions". Put these created works together and there will be a "do it" exhibition. In Obrist's view, art is action. No matter who it is, as long as they participate, as long as they "do", they can share the joy of artistic creation.

"do it" has been featured in at least 50 different locations worldwide, including Australia, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Mexico, Costa Rica, Slovenia and Uruguay.  Each exhibition is aimed at a different specific location, inviting the local community to participate in the dialogue in order to respond and add new instructions, while remaining global within an expanding scope. Not only artists, but film directors, architects, and musicians have all joined the game. The instruction set has increased from the original 12 to more than 250. The location of the exhibition has also been expanded from art museums to schools, homes, television media, outdoor... This also means that do it exhibitions reveal the nuances of human interpretation in the process of generation and accumulation. Only in this way can the gap between the past, the present and the future be bridged.

"To build a city" was proposed by artist Yuna Friedman in 2002. The instruction demands the artist to draw a floor plan of the dream home. 指令:do it (COLLECTIVE MAKING)

Kunsthal Aarhus

在“集体制造”展览系列的背景下,通过在更为集体的DIWO(与他人一起做)框架中考虑DIY(自己动手做)的精神。

    Instruction:do it (COLLECTIVE MAKING)

    Exhibition hall:Kunsthal Aarhus

    Address:Aarhus, Denmark

    Date:October 2 – November 29, 2015

The instructions selected by Kunsthal Aarhus for this version of do it are presented in six ”how-to” themes; how to eat, how to play, how to build, how to be social, how to be political, and how to be digital.

In the context of the COLLECTIVE MAKING exhibition series (2015-16), the main concept of do it is put under pressure by considering its DIY (Do It Yourself) ethos in a more collective framework of DIWO (Do It With Others). The rules of the game change over time and what were once radical interventions become normalized: how do we respond now to the artists' imperative to do something when we no longer believe in artistic autonomy and when we are all producers all the time? The exhibition of do it at Kunsthal Aarhus raises many interesting questions about how cultural and historical conditions affect the choices on offer, as well as how we begin to situate the central and powerful figure of the curator in these processes.
